As an artist, Jan is Influenced by both the culture and landscape of the Okanagan. Her work explores the relationship of the people to their area.

She writes, "I have come to realize the important role the land plays in defining our identity. Whether rooted in a natural environment or part of a large urban center, identity is forever transforming and evolving. My focus as an artist is to continue investigating the definition of identity."
